Fresh off of handing out a full-season order to breakout hit Limitless, CBS has ordered six additional scripts for their new medical drama series Code Black starring Marcia Gay Harden (The Newsroom), TVWise has learned.
While not the runaway success that Limitless has been, Code Black has nevertheless been a solid performer for CBS. The series premiered on September 30th to 8.6 million viewers and a 1.5 demo rating. While ratings did slip slightly in subsequent weeks, the series seems to have stabilized with a an audience of around 7 million viewers and a 1.2 rating.
From Michael Seitzman and ABC Studios, Code Black is set in the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation where the extraordinary staff struggle in the face of a broken system to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Bonnie Somerville, Raza Jaffrey, Luis Guzman, Melanie Kannokada, Harry M. Ford, Ben Hollingsworth and William Allen Young.
In addition to the OK ratings, Code Black has been a strong seller seller for ABC Studios international distribution division Disney Media Distribution, who have racked up a whole slew of sales for the series. Notably, DMD recently secured a UK deal for Code Black, selling it to UKTV’s flagship entertainment channel Watch, who plan to debut the medical drama on Thursday October 29th at 9pm.
