RLJ Entertainment has hired RTE’s Shane Murphy to serve as the Managing Director of their UK based production company Acorn Media Enterprises (formerly known as Acorn Productions), TVWise has learned.
Shane Murphy joins the company from Deadpan Pictures and RTE Television, where he served as a co-production consultant. That expertise will be instrumental in his new role as MD as he will be responsible for expanding RLJ Entertainment’s involvement in new content development and co-productions, after Acorn co-produced a range of recent UK series such as Partners In Crime and Foyle’s War.
Murphy, who took up post on September 17th, reports to President of Acorn Brands Mark Stevens and is based out of RLJ Entertainment’s UK office in London. Prior to his co-pro role, Murphy held key posts at a range of entertainment companies including FremantleMedia Enterprises, Tiger Aspect Productions, Tara TV, Discovery Networks Europe, Carlton and Granada.
“We continue to look for ways to participate earlier in the development of new high quality British Drama”, said Mark Stevens. “We’re thrilled to have someone with Shane’s experience join RLJ Entertainment to help us expand our efforts to participate in the development of more first rate international content.”
RLJ’s Acorn brand is known for bringing hit British dramas to U.S. audiences, mainly through their dedicated VOD service Acorn TV and their home entertainment releases. Notable titles in Acorn’s catalogue include ITV’s hit Christie adaptation Poirot, BBC One’s Partners In Crime starring David Walliams and Jessica Raine, as well as Anthony Horowitz’s ITV series Foyle’s War.
