Netflix Picks Up UK Rights To ‘Once Upon A Time’ Season 5, Sets September Premiere

Once Upon A Time S5 (FT)

Netflix UK is returning to Storybrooke.

After acquiring and streaming the show’s third and fourth seasons, the UK arm of the streaming service has extended their deal with Disney Media Distribution and picked up the exclusive UK rights to the fifth season of ABC’s drama series Once Upon A Time.

The fifth season of Once Upon A Time will premiere on Netflix UK on Wednesday September 30th, when the first episode will be available to stream for subscribers. New episodes will then continue to be made available every Wednesday, mere days after they air on ABC in the United States.

Netflix became the exclusive UK broadcaster for Once Upon A Time earlier this year when they sealed a lucrative deal with international distributor Disney Media Distribution. Prior to that, the show had been without a UK broadcaster following Channel 5’s decision not to renew their licensing deal for the show in 2013, shortly after the show’s second season wrapped its run on the FTA channel.

In the show’s fifth season, immediately after becoming the Dark One, Emma disappears and the heroes must band together to save her, but first they have to find her, which will require the help of an unlikely ally. Meanwhile, in the Enchanted Forest, Emma struggles to resist her dark urges as she searches for Merlin in the hope that he can stop her transformation.
