BBC Two has commissioned 7 Wonder – the independent production company backed by Australian broadcaster Seven Network – to produce Don’t Buy That, Buy This?, a consumer format fronted by Cherry Healey which aims to tell viewers what to buy and what not to buy.
The series will inform buyers by testing a range of products. Each episode will be set at a different location, including elegant stately homes, opulent opera houses and state of the art film studios. In addition to the product tests there will be a series of reporter-led strands informing the audience how to spot the psychological tricks companies use to entice us to spend, and find out which functions are really needed when buying a new appliance.
“I’m delighted to present this series and take a consumer show out of the TV studio and into some of the UK’s most iconic locations”, said Cherry Healey. “We will ask professionals and experts at the top of their game which products they would choose, promising to give audiences invaluable information and plenty of entertainment.”
Don’t Buy That, Buy This? was commissioned by the BBC’s Head of Knowledge Commissioning Tom McDonald & Commissioning Editor Craig Hunter and has received and order for six half-hour episodes. Former Watchdog and Stargazing Live showrunner is serving as the series editor for 7 Wonder.
“It’s really exciting to be working on a series that aims to be hugely credible, intelligent and journalistic whilst also being full of mischief and fun”, added Holland. “I’m very much looking forward to working with Cherry Healey – she’s the perfect person to front this show, she’s warm, smart and engaging and the audience really trust her.”
