Manhattan S2WGN America has released the first trailer for the second season of their atomic bomb drama Manhattan, which is set to premiere on the Tribune owned cable network on Tuesday October 13th at 9/8c.

From Sam Shaw and Thomas Schlamme, Manhattan is set against the backdrop of the mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The drama series is produced by Skydance Television, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate Television and stars John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Daniel Stern, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Katja Herbers, Alexia Fast, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus.

The show’s 13 episode second season will once again take viewers inside the world’s most secretive city where, locked away, the scientists and their families surrender their freedoms, compromise their marriages, and even sacrifice their sanity to end one war and usher in another — the Cold War waiting just over the atomic horizon — all while embedded spies and a climate of paranoia threaten to destroy the project from within.

CSI veteran William Petersen – who is returning to the long-running procedural for its two-hour finale – joins the cast of Manhattan this season as a series regular, playing the part of Colonel Emmett Darrow – the enigmatic new ranking military officer at Los Alamos. Mamie Gummer has also joined the cast in a recurring role. She plays Nora, a beautiful, street-smart spy sent to the Hill to serve as a liaison to Jim Meeks (Christopher Denham).

The new trailer, which runs a little over a minute, offers the first glimpses of William Petersen as Colonel Emmett Darrow, who, when asked who he is by suspected spy Dr Frank Winter (John Benjamin Hinkley), simply responds “the United States Of America”. Also confirmed by this trailer: Neve Campbell has joined the cast as Kitty, Oppenheimer’s wife; and The West Wing vet Richard Schiff  is reprising his season one role as spy catcher Mr Fisher.
