UKTV's Gold Channel Orders Hotel Comedy 'Do Not Disturb', Catherine Tate & Miles Jupp To Star – TVWise

UKTV’s Gold channel has given the greenlight to Do Not Disturb, an hour-long comedy set in a boutique hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon. Catherine Tate (Big School) and Miles Jupp (In & Out Of The Kitchen) are attached to star.
Set to premiere in 2016, Do Not Disturb follows estranged husband and wife Anna and John, who attempt reconciliation talks after her affair with a much younger man. Anna checks into the honeymoon suite and her husband unexpectedly heads to the room a short while later. Unbeknownst to the couple, a 21-year-old man is lying comatose, semi-naked, in the bathtub, recovering from a rowdy stag do. What happens next will either make or break their marriage for good.
Catherine Tate will play lead character Anna, who has to come up with a plan to deal with the comatose man, handle the well-meaning though hapless hotel staff, and try not to rouse the suspicions of her husband, who has been rocked by her previous betrayal; while Miles Jupp has been cast as Anna’s husband John. Sian Gibson (Peter Kay’s Car Share) and Kierston Wareing (The Shadow Line) also star.
“We’re delighted that Catherine Tate will bring her unique wit and comedy genius to the heart of this landmark programme for Gold”, said UKTV’s Commissioning Editor Simon Lupton, who commissioned the comedy alongside Gold General Manager Steve North. “Do Not Disturb has all the hallmarks of a brilliant comedic set up that will resonate with the channel’s audience.”
Do Not Disturb is the latest project to come out of UKTV’s aggressive push into scripted comedy. As part of said push, the company’s Gold channel previously announced plans to commission at least five scripted comedies. This is the fourth of those five commissions, following in the footsteps of the previously announced Marley’s Ghosts, Henry IX and Bull. Do Not Disturb was created by Aschlin Ditta and is being produced by Lonesome Pine Productions Ltd.
“This is another new and exciting commission for the Gold schedule in 2016″, added Gold’s General Manager Steve North. “With a stellar cast delivering a superb script from Aschlin Ditta, Do Not Disturb will provide Gold’s viewers with a must see TV event for the New Year.”
