Ovation Takes U.S. Rights To Sky Arts’ ‘Portrait Artist Of The Year’

Portait Artists Of The YearPortrait Artist Of The Year is heading to the United States.

Arts focused cable network Ovation has secured the U.S. broadcast rights to the Sky Arts series after striking a deal with international distributor Zodiak Rights, TVWise has learned. Ovation’s deal with Zodiak covers the first two seasons of the show.

Hosted by Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner, Portrait Artist Of The Year follows Bakewell, Skinner and an esteemed group of judges as they search across the UK and Ireland for a new star of the art world, whether amateur, professional or hobbyist Celebrities who have their portraits painted over the two seasons include Hilary Mantel, John Hannah, Sophie Turner, Simon Weston, Sophie Dahl, Maisie Williams, John Humphrys, Julian Fellowes, Richard Dawkins and Alan Cumming.

“This series hits on so many of Ovation’s key touchstones. Not only is it centered in the arts, but it focuses on the artistic process and celebrates the next generation of artists”, said Lori Hall, Ovation’s Vice-President of Scheduling and Acquisitions. “The production itself is handled deftly, bringing the magic of capturing the nuances of a human face to life in a smart and totally entertaining way. We think the show will win over Ovation viewers as it has won art enthusiasts throughout the UK.”
