NBC Hands Out Series Order To Michael Schur Comedy, Pilot Order To Tina Fey & Robert Carlock’s Cable News Sitcom

NBCNBC is getting back into business with the creators of their cult comedy series Parks & Recreation and 30 Rock.

The network has handed out a 13 episode straight-to-series order to an untitled comedy from Pars & Recreation creator Michael Schur; while a sitcom set behinds the scenes at a Cable News Network from 30 Rock and Inbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Tina Fey and Robert Carlock has been picked up to pilot.

The Michael Schur comedy, which is operating with a working title of The Good Place, is set up at NBC’s sister studio Universal Television, who served as the studio on Parks & Recreation and Schur’s other comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and tells the story of a woman who is wrestling with what it means to be good. Michael Schur and David Miner will executive produce. The comedy series is shrouded in secrecy with NBC’s President of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke saying that “Mike prefers to keep details under wraps while he meets actors and actresses”.

“He came in recently and pitched the entire first season, and we loved it so much we ordered it to production”, Salke added. “I can tell you that the man who brought Amy Poehler to primetime is bringing us another funny, strong and particularly complicated female character — yes, the lead is a woman — in a comedy like nothing seen before, about a woman wrestling with what it means to be good. We’re very excited about this show!”

Tina FeyThe Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comedy, which is also set up at Universal Television, centers on a mother-daughter relationship that is challenged when an overly involved New Jersey mom gets an internship at her daughter’s workplace, a cable news network. 30 Rock scribe Tracey Wigfield is penning the script and will serve as an executive producer alongside Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and David Miner.

“Tina and Robert are two of the pre-eminent voices in comedy, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that they’re bringing their next project to NBC,” said Salke,. “We also adore Tracey, who has written some brilliant episodes of both ‘30 Rock’ and ‘The Mindy Project.’ With this super-talented trio at the helm, we’re eagerly looking forward to their next great show.”
