Zodiak is getting into business with Britt Allcroft.
The media company’s childrens entertainment division Zodiak Kids has entered into a development deal with the well known producer, who has been behind such efforts as Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends and Shining Time Station, and her production company Britt Allcroft Productions LLC.
Under the pact, Allcroft will develop new kids programming which Zodiak can then exploit on the international market. The first project to emanate from the deal will be a reboot of Allcroft’s 1990s animated series The Magic Adventures Of Mumfie, which will be produced through Zodiak Kids Studios.
“I’m happy to be working with Michael Carrington and all the team at Zodiak Kids Studios”, said Mumfie creator Britt Alcroft “It’s the right time and the right team to bring Mumfie to a whole new world of fans in the 21st century.”
The Magic Adventures Of Mumfie, which ran for some 79 episodes and was spun off into a feature film, followed the titular character, an elephant who is joined on his adventures by a variety of animals and birds including a whale, a flying pig, some pirates and his trusty sidekick Scarecrow. That series first aired on CITV in the UK and was licensed to a wide range of international broadcasters including Fox Kids in the United States.
“We are thrilled to be working with Britt Allcroft to help refresh iconic property Mumfie”, added Michael Carrington, CEO of Zodiak Kids Studios. “It is a brand with a vast amount of heritage and appeal, and at Zodiak Kids Studios we can’t wait to start visualising it for the next generation of pre-schoolers, who are sure to become fans”.
