UKTV’s Good Food Channel Orders New John Torode Series ‘Malaysian Adventure’

Good FoodGood Food is reuniting with John Torode. The UKTV owned and operated channel has ordered John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure, a new 10 part series following the acclaimed chef as he explores the varied cuisine of Malaysia.

Described as a “culinary adventure”, John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure follows John as he travels throughout Malaysia and finds him cooking with local chefs, meeting celebrity restaurateurs, visiting colourful night markets and exploring the impact of history and culture on the evolution of Malaysian food. Meanwhile, back in the UK Torode will re-imagine the cuisine inspired by his journey and create a whole array of delicious recipes for viewers to try themselves.

Currently in production for a 2016 premiere, the Advertiser Funded Programme is being produced by Cactus TV in association with MATRADE, the national trade promotion agency of Malaysia. The series was ordered by Emma Ayech, General Manager of Good Food; while the deal was co-ordinated by UKTV’s Commercial Partnerships Manager Kate Norum and Stuart Knight of whynot!, MATRADE’s retained promotions agency. John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure will be overseen by UKTV Commissioning Executive Victoria Summer and is being directed and produced by David Robertson.

This is the second major commission that Torode has top-lined for UKTV in the past couple of years. He previously fronted a similarly themed series titled John Torode’s Australia, which aired on Good Food last year. Malaysian Adventure is also the latest example of UKTV’s willingness to embrace AFP when it comes to their push into original series. John Torode’s Australia was another example of that, with Tourism Australia, Emirates and Drum Screen co-funding the project.
