Turner Broadcasting has poached UKTV’s Dan Fahy and appointed him as their Senior Director of Commercial Development for the UK and Northern Europe.
In the newly created role Fahy will lead the commercial strategy for Turner UK and help guide and implement strategy in the Nordic countries alongside the local team. He will also be responsible for maximising revenues, identifying, evaluating and delivering opportunities for all Turner’s channels across its kids and general entertainment portfolio. He will be based out of the London office.
Fahy had been with UKTV since 2010, most recently serving as Director of Commercial and Business Development. In said role he was responsible for leading all of UKTV’s distribution and venture related business negotiations, as well as leading the commercial strategy for UKTV’s digital service UKTV Play. Prior to UKTV he held key roles with Eurosport and Red Bee Media.
Turner is aiming to capitalise on Fahy’s expertise in the distribution and VOD space, with his new role also encompassing the creation and implementation of a digital distribution strategy including VOD services, OTT and other non-linear platforms. He will lead and manage all commercial and distribution agreements with linear pay and free to air platforms, including contract renewals and negotiations.
“We are delighted to welcome Dan – it’s a challenging and exciting position as the company is perfectly poised for future growth”, said Ian McDonough, Turner’s Senior Vice-President & MD for Northern Europe, to whom Fahy will report. “In addition to growing revenues across existing channels, this critical role will evaluate opportunities presented by new technologies and distribution partners, including wireless and interactive service providers.”
