Syfy UK’s newest hit Dark Matter is showing no signs of slowing down.
Pulling off a rare feat, the space opera series actually grew its audience in its second week, drawing a consolidated audience of 393K viewers. All told, Dark Matter posted gains of around 17K viewers or just under 5% on the series premiere’s 376K viewers.
The (albeit marginal) ratings growth is significant, as it makes Dark Matter the first new series launch on Syfy UK in the past year to actually grow its audience from the premiere. The channel’s two biggest launches in that time period both suffered ratings dips in their second weeks on air, with Extant shedding 20% of its viewers and The Librarians seeing a drop-off of around 15%.
Elsewhere on Syfy UK, Defiance kicked off its 13 episode third season on June 25th with a consolidated audience of just over 100K viewers. While that was up on the channel’s 12 month slot-average and in-line with the performance of a number of shows including Continuum and 12 Monkeys, it was nevertheless down significantly from the figures for the second season premiere, which drew 225K viewers.
