Betsy Ross is heading to Sleepy Hollow. Twilight star Nikki Reed has joined the cast of the Fox drama as a series regular playing the well known creator of the American flag. But there’s a twist…
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, the show’s producers are putting a new spin on the historic figure. The character is being described as “sexy with an unsuspecting physical prowess”. By day she’s the figure recorded in history books, but by night she’s a secret operative within George Washington’s mysterious ring of spies.
Sleepy Hollow is based on The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow and follows Ichabod Crane as he partners with Sleepy Hollow’s local female sheriff to solve the mysteries of a town ravaged by the battle between good and evil. The drama series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television & K/O Paper Products and stars Tom Mison, Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, Nicole Beharie, Lyndie Greenwood and John Noble.
Major changes are ahead for Sleepy Hollow, with The Glades creator Clifton Campbell taking over as showrunner from Mark Goffman, who exited at the end of season two following demands from Fox execs that the show return to its more procedural roots (in the hopes of improving ratings). Another major shake-up also saw original cast member Orlando Jones exit the show at the end of last season.
