Netflix has unveiled the first full length trailer and the key art for their upcoming eight episode series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp.
A prequel to the cult film Wet Hot American Summer, First Day Of Camp takes place at the fictional Camp Firewood, a summer camp in Maine where friendships are formed, relationships bloom and hormones rage against a backdrop of athletics, arts and crafts, theater, secret identities, sexual discovery and diabolical government conspiracies. While the events of the film happen on the last day at Camp Firewood in the summer of 1981, the series takes place two months earlier, on the first day of camp.
The entire cast from the film – Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, AD Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan and Molly Shannon – are returning. New cast additions include Lake Bell, Michael Cera, Josh Charles, Jon Hamm, Randall Park, Jordan Peele, Chris Pine, John Slattery, Jason Schwartzman, Michaela Watkins, Kristen Wiig and “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Set to premiere in all territories where Netflix has a presence (including the US and the UK & Ireland) on Friday July 31st, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp was devised by David Wain and Michael Showalter, who co-wrote the original feature film. In addition to penning the scripts for the eight episode series, Wain and Showalter also executive produce alongside Howard Bernstein Jonathan Stern and Peter Principato.
