CBBC had handed out an early renewal to Hank Zipzer, picking up a thirteen episode third season of the kids series created by and starring Henry Winkler more than a month before the show’s second season is set to debut.
Based on the book series by Winkler and Lin Oliver, Hank Zipzer follows the life of 13-year-old Henry ‘Hank’ Zipzer whose glass is half full, but he just spills it everywhere…His brain works differently to those around him, and he has a great imagination, but doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with his parents and teachers.
Henry Winkler is signed on to reprise his role as music teacher Mr Rock in the show’s third season. Kindle Entertainment, DHX Media and Walker Productions are producing, with support from Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund. The series is commissioned by Cheryl Talor, Controller of CBBC.
“This is a heart-warming, funny, relatable series that we enjoy making just as much as audiences enjoy watching”, said Steven DeNure, President and COO of DHX Media. “With CBBC’s commitment to a third season, and with season two set to air from the summer, Hank will continue to win fans with more playful misbehaviour.”
International DHX Media has been busy lining up global sales for the series since Hank Zipzer hit the international market last year. The Canadian media company has licensed the show to broadcasters in a wealth of countries including Spain, Sweden, Latin America, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico and Uruguay.
