Channel 5 is adding to their factual commissioning team. The Viacom owned broadcaster has poached BBC exec Sean Doyle, who most recently served as the corporation’s Head of Development for Daytime and Features, and appointed him as Commissioning Editor, Factual.
In the new role, Doyle will be responsible for developing new areas of factual programming and he will also champion new talent, as well as providing editorial and production support for all factual content. He will report directly to Channel 5’s Director of Programmes Ben Frow, who announced the hire.
“I’m delighted Sean is joining us; he has a populist touch, a great personality and an enthusiasm for good ideas that is infectious”, said Ben Frow. “Sean will make a great addition to the team as we continue to evolve the Channel 5 portfolio.”
The addition of Sean Doyle to the commissioning team is significant as it comes at a time when Channel 5 is seeking to continue improving the “range, quality and creative ambition” of its documentary and popular factual output. The hire also comes shortly after Channel 5 announced that Ninder Billing will also be joining C5 in August as Commissioning Editor, Factual and Sport.
