Neil McDonoughThe CW is adding to the cast of Arrow.

Veteran character actor Neil McDonough has boarded the DC Comics drama as a regular, TVWise has learned. He will play well known villain Damien Darhk in the show’s fourth season, which is set to premiere on The CW on Wednesday October 7th.

Damien Darhk is described as “a mysterious and sophisticated villain” who was once an adversary of the late Ra’s Al Ghul. Now the leader of his own clandestine group, this cunning foe will prove to be one of the Arrow’s greatest challenges.

McDonough, repped by Paradigm, has a long list of TV credits which includes JAG, NYPD Blue, Murder One, Band Of Brothers and The X-Files. More recently, he had a season-long arc on FX’s Justified and key roles on TNT’s Mob City and USA Network’s Suits. McDonough also recently wrapped a recurring role on TNT’s Public Morals, which premieres on August 25th.

Could be that ‘Arrow’ may become too big for it’s own boots with more prospective spin-offs in production. Stephen Amell must be looking hard at his contract especially if his acting ambition also includes making movies. The original masked avenger role has expanded beyond the formerly attractive simplicity of Arrow’s first season, the risk for the producers is that ratings may not match their investment, but only time will tell.
