UKTV has inked a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution to acquire the Amy Poehler fronted comedy series Parks & Recreation for their Dave channel. Parks & Recreation is set to premiere on Dave later this year.
Parks & Recreation follows Leslie Knope, the deputy director of the Parks and Recreation as she tries her best to deliver for the local community despite the best efforts of her boss, Ron Swanson, who is opposed to government and does his best to undermine government work at every turn. The comedy series stars Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Paul Schneider, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Jim O’Heir and Retta.
This deal between NBCU and UKTV, which was brokered by UKTV’s Head of Acquisitions & Co-Productions Alexandra Finlay, covers seasons four through seven of Parks & Recreation and comes after BBC Four initially aired the first three seasons in the UK between 2013 and 2014. The BBC, however, opted not to pick up the fourth season due to flagging ratings and on-going budget cuts.
Parks & Recreation is the second big ticket first run US scripted acquisition for Dave and it fulfils their ambition of finding a first run premiere piece that could sit alongside Suits. “Parks and Recreation feels like it was written for Dave; the wit and humour fits perfectly on the channel and will be a great addition to the slate, sitting alongside Suits “, said Steve North, General Manager of Dave.
While UKTV’s Head of Acquisitions & Co-Productions Alexandra Finlay added: “We’re delighted to extend our partnership with NBCUniversal on this deal. As an award-winning comedy with a superb cast, Parks and Recreation is a fantastic addition to Dave’s scripted acquisition slate.”
