Starz is continuing to build the cast of Outlander. Mere days after casting Audrey Brisson as Sister Angelique, French actor Dominique Piñon has been tapped for a starring role on the show’s 13 episode second season.
Dominique Piñon will play Master Raymond, a small kindly apothecary who is described as being “a mysterious healer” with a great deal of knowledge regarding secret matters, both political and occult. Though generally viewed with suspicion by his contemporaries, Master Raymond forms a special bond with Claire.
Based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander was developed for television by Ronald D. Moore and stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzes, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Duncan Lacroix, Annette Badland, Lotte Verbeek and Stephen Walters also star. The drama series is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Outlander’s second season, which will run “at least” 13 episodes, is currently in production in Scotland for a 2016 premiere on Starz. The sophomore season is based on Dragonfly In Amber, the second book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novel series, and follows Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in Paris, France, as they attempt to prevent the Jacobite uprisings, which Claire knows will end in disaster.
