OdysseyNBC’s drama series Odyssey (AKA American Odyssey) will receive its UK premiere on BBC Two on Sunday June 28th at 9:15pm with a double-bill, it has been announced.

Created by Peter Horton, Adam Armus and Kay Foster, Odyssey tells the story of families torn apart when a female Special Ops soldier in North Africa, a corporate lawyer, and a Wall Street activist each uncover the same conspiracy between a U.S. corporation, the government, and terrorism. The drama series is produced by Universal Television and stars Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Daniella Pineda and Treat Williams.

The BBC picked up Odyssey in a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution earlier this year and it’s worth noting that Odyssey is the first major US drama series acquisition for BBC Two since Pan Am in 2011, after senior BBC executives came to a conclusion that acquiring a wealth of US content, as they traditionally did in years past, did not “add value” for the license fee payer.

“Odyssey is an ambitious drama that expertly weaves three compelling storylines into a gripping high-stakes thriller – we are delighted to be bringing it to BBC Two viewers,” the BBC’s Head of Programme Acquisitions Sue Deeks said at the time that the acquisition was announced.

Yeah because the BBCs own shows add value to the licence fee….

The BBC should spend some of our licence fee making the second series of The Banished, never mind cancelling!
