CBS has handed out a mass renewal, picking up some 10 scripted series for the 2015-2016 season. The shows getting the nod for next season are Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, Elementary, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person Of Interest, CSI: Cyber, The Good Wife and The Odd Couple.
By and large, today’s renewals had been widely expected with most of the above series, such as Blue Bloods, NCIS and Criminal Minds, being amongst the network’s top rated. One of the real hold ups in securing a renewal here was contract negotiations, with the contracts for the cast on Criminal Minds up this past season.
But as with past seasons, CBS has opted to renew Criminal Minds and then work on the contract issues, rather than waiting for deals to close before granting an official pick up. The reasoning was clear as waiting for deals to close would mean leaving the fate of the show in limbo until well after the Upfronts. (It’s also worth noting that as the spin-off Beyond Borders getting a series order, there was no scenario in which CBS would not renew the parent series).
With the mass renewal, CBS has more or less set their line up for the 2015-2016 season. 2 Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory, Madam Secretary, Mike & Molly, Mom, NCIS: New Orleans and Scorpion have already been renewed; while new series pick ups include Supergirl, Angel From Hell, Life In Pieces, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Limitless, Rush Hour and Code Black.
There is still no word of the fate of long-running procedural CSI: Crime Scene Investiagtion. As previously reported, CBS is set to bring back the show for a final go around during the 2015-2016 season, but its not immediately clear if the network would opt for a TV movie of an abbreviated final season. A formal announcement is expected on Wednesday.
