OdysseyThe BBC has released the first trailer for US drama Odyssey (AKA American Odyssey), which they acquired in a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution earlier this year. The series, starring Anna Friel, is expected to premiere on BBC Two next month.

Created by Peter Horton, Adam Armus and Kay Foster, Odyssey tells the story of families torn apart when a female Special Ops soldier in North Africa, a corporate lawyer, and a Wall Street activist each uncover the same conspiracy between a U.S. corporation, the government, and terrorism. The drama series is produced by Universal Television and stars Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Daniella Pineda and Treat Williams.

It’s worth noting that Odyssey is the first major US drama series acquisition for BBC Two since Pan Am in 2011, after executives came to a conclusion that acquiring a wealth of US content, as they traditionally did in years past, did not “add value” for the license fee payer.

“Odyssey is an ambitious drama that expertly weaves three compelling storylines into a gripping high-stakes thriller – we are delighted to be bringing it to BBC Two viewers,” the BBC’s Head of Programme Acquisitions Sue Deeks said at the time that the acquisition was announced.

I’m not surprised they didn’t go with the changed title.

Hope the show keeps up to date with recent political activity in the Middle East and is not another U.S. Military / CIA dark ops melodrama similar to ‘Homeland’.

Gee it was awful. Over complex plotting, over simplistic characters, and how damaged do you have to be to enjoy such a continuous flow of unrelieved nastiness?
