ABC Family is continuing to build the cast for their Mortal Instruments adaptation Shadowhunters. Canadian actress Maxim Roy has joined the cast of the drama series in the recurring role of Jocelyn Fray, the mother of central character Clary Fray.
Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon.
Jocelyn Fray is described as being seemingly normal, but she harbors many secrets about a past life, particularly her ties to an ancient group of supernatural beings known as Shadowhunters. In order to defend Clary from danger, Jocelyn transforms from single mom back into one of the most lethal Shadowhunters that ever lived.
Maxim Roy joins a growing cast which also includes Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood and Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway.
Shadowhunters, which is based on Cassandra Clare’s YA novel series The Mortal Instruments, is set up a Constantin Film. The German production company has been attempting to get a TV adaptation of the novel series off the ground since last October, after feature film adaptation The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones flopped at the box office. Ed Decter and McG serve as the executive producers on the series. Decter is also the showrunner, while McG will direct the pilot.
