TV Land has picked up a 12 episode second season of Sex And City creator Darren Star’s comedy series Younger, the network announced on Tuesday.
Younger follows 40-year old woman who pretends to be 26 in order to get a job in the highly competitive world of publishing – and succeeds. Now working under the prickly Diana, Liza has to figure out how to balance her real life with bestie Maggie, and her “pretend” life with new friend and coworker Kelsey…all while embarking on an exciting and somewhat confusing relationship with sexy tattoo artist Josh.
The 10 episode series, which is shot on location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, hails from Sex and the City‘s Darren Star and is the network’s latest foray into the single camera format after initially testing the waters earlier this year with the Jaime Pressly fronted Jennifer Falls. Youngers stars Sutton Foster (Bunheads), Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire), Debi Mazar (Entourage), Miriam Shor (GCB) and Nico Tortorella (The Following).
The renewal comes after a mere four episodes of the single-camera effort have aired and follows a period of uncertainty at the network. After a recent spate of cancellations, the network’s president Larry Jones stepped down amidst a corporate restructuring at parent company Viacom. A replacement has not yet been named.
“Younger is the first step in TV Land’s evolution, and we are very proud to announce a second season,” said Keith Cox, TV Land’s Executive Vice-President of Development & Original Programming. “We’re thrilled to continue working with Darren, and really eager to see where he takes this story and our amazing cast next.”
Like many of TV Land’s originals, Younger has been a soft performer in live+same day, but has seen some big audience gains through DVR and on-demand viewing. The network said that the series has been viewed by 20 million people across multiple networks and multiple platforms, including TV Land, Nick at Nite, Hulu, VOD and TVLand.com.
