HBO is teaming up with Whitney and 2 Broke Girls creator Whitney Cummings for their next comedy project.
The premium cable network has handed out a pilot order to the as-yet untitled comedy which is based on Maureen Dowd’s book Are Men Necessary? When Sexes Collide, Deadline reports. In addition, HBO has ordered a stand-up special featuring Cummings.
Described as a “comedic portrait of modern relationships”, the half-hour project uses documentary elements and appearances from experts to help the characters understand the biological basis of their behaviour. The executive producers are Whitney Cummingsm Tom Werner, Jimmy Miller and Maureen Dowd.
The pilot order for the untitled project comes as HBO is deep in development on a number of comedies, including one from Sarah Silverman, with the view of picking up two or three to join their existing comedy line up. which already includes Girls, Veep, Silicon Valley and the just picked up Divorce, which is being toplined by Sarah Jessica Parker.
