Dominic Sherwood has been set as the male lead in ABC Family’s straight-to-series drama Shadowhunters, which is based on Cassandra Clare’s YA novel series The Mortal Instruments.
Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon.
Dominic Sherwood will play Jace Wayland, a determined and expert Shadowhunter who is described as being both narcissistic and lethally gorgeous. A skilled soldier in a war against demons. After his father is killed, Jace makes it his life mission to seek revenge on the man who is responsible.
The British actor is the first to be cast in Shadowhunters, which landed at ABC late last month with a 10 episode straight-to-series order after the project, which is being produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Ed Decter and McG, had been on the marker for the better part of six months (it was initially shopped around at MIPCOM 2014).
Sherwood, who is repped by the leading literary and talent agency Curtis Brown in the UK, is best known for his appearance in feature film Vampire Academy. On the TV side he has appeared in such British series as Sadie J and Mayday, the latter of which also starred Sophie Okonedo and Peter Firth.
