BBC Four Picks Up UK Rights To Danish Economic Thriller ‘Follow The Money’

BBC FourBBC Four is on a roll. Shorty after snapping up Icelandic murder mystery Trapped, the channel has closed a deal with DR Sales to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Danish economic crime thriller Follow The Money.

Follow The Money is described as a “thriller set in the world of economic crime” which follows Mads, a police detective who is assigned to investigate when a dead body is found in the sea near a wind farm off the coast of Denmark. Mads refuses to believe that it is just an accident and the deeper he digs, the more suspicious he becomes of quickly expanding energy company Energen. Before long the detective is drawn into a morass of financial and legal shady dealings.

Borgen‘s Jeppe Gjervig Gram created the series and penned the scripts alongside a writing team that includes Anders August and Jannik Tai Mosholt. Follow The Money is produced in-house by DR and stars Thomas Bo Larson (Mads), Natalie Madueño Wolfsberg (Claudia), Esben Smed (Nicky) and Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Alexander). Anders Toft Anderson serves as the executive producer. The Woman Who Dreamt Of A Man helmer Per Fly is the director.

“BBC Four continues to bring the very best international drama to its audience and I’m particularly pleased to welcome Follow The Money to the channel”, said BBC Four Channel Editor Cassian Harrison. “This gripping new series from DR really adds to the quality and range of programming on the BBC Four slate.”

“Follow The Money is a stylish, intelligent, thought-provoking and complex multi-stranded drama”, added the BBC’s Head of Acquisitions Sue Deeks, who struck the deal for Follow The Money with DR Sales. “Following on from The Killing, Borgen and 1864, we are delighted to have another superb series from DR on BBC Four.”
