ABC's 'Revenge' Cancelled After Four Seasons – TVWise

With a little under two weeks until the Upfronts get underway in New York City, the first official cancellation has come through. ABC has pulled the plug on Revenge after airing four season of the series starring Emily VanCamp. The series finale will air on ABC on Sunday May 10th.
Created by Mike Kelley, Revenge is a modern day take on the story of The Count Of Monte Cristo. The drama series is produced by ABC Studios and stars Emily VanCamp, Gabriel Mann, Nick Wechsler, Joshua Bowman, Christa B. Allen, James Tupper, Karine Vanasse and Brian Hallisay.
Debuting in 2011, Revenge was a strong ratings performer for ABC, premiering to some 10 million viewers and a 3.3. rating in the coveted Adults 18-49 demo. In subsequent seasons the ratings have dipped amidst criticism that the show was running on fumes, with the creative spark that fuelled the first season seemingly gone.
The cancellation was not an entirely unexpected one with ABC sources maintaining for the past few months that the series would be coming to an end. According to EW, who broke the news of the cancellation, showrunner Sunil Nayar did have plans for a fifth season, but after the network screened the final episode of this season they chose to end the series, supposedly on a creative high.
Revenge joins Selfie and Manhattan Love Story in being the only series at ABC to have been cancelled thus far. The network has still not officially decided on the fate of nearly all of their shows including Greys Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder and Fresh Off The Boat.
