ABC is looking to expand the Marvel TV universe.
After launching Marvel’s Agent Carter earlier this season, ABC has reportedly set their sights on a Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off which is eyed for a berth on the network’s 2015 – 2016 schedule.
There are very few details available about the proposed SHIELD spin-off, except for the fact that it wont be piloted using a planted episode as NBC and CBS has done this season with Chicago Med and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, respectively.
According to EW, who broke the news, the potential spin-off is being shepherded by Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell and writer Paul Zbyszewski. It is also believed that storylines from the back-end of SHIELD’s second season will be used to lay the groundwork for the spin-off.
If the spin-off goes to series and, as widely expected, both Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are renewed for next season, that would bring the total number of Marvel series in the pipeline to eight. In addition to the aforementioned ABC series, Netflix has a Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist series in the works; as well as a mini-series tying those four together.
