Sky1 is teaming up with Stan Lee for Lucky Man, a 10 episode series which is being hailed as the comic book icon’s first ever original UK drama. The Missing and Babylon star James Nesbitt is attached to star and will lead the all-star cast.
Lucky Man follows DI Harry Clayton, a down on his luck cop from Central London’s notorious Murder Squad. His wife and child have left him due to his gambling habit and he has a huge debt to an infamous underworld crime boss who is threatening his life. But a chance meeting with a mysterious woman who gives him an ancient bracelet changes everything. It appears to give Harry control over luck itself, but at what cost?
James Nesbitt heads the cast, playing the series lead role of Detective Inspector Harry Clayton; while Eve Best (The Honourable Woman) will play his wife. Sienna Guillory (Luther), Amara Karan (Kidnap And Ransom), Darren Boyd (Fortitude), Omid Djalili (Pirates Of The Caribbean), Jing Lusi (Holby City) and Kenneth Tsang (Die Another Day) also star
The project is set up at Downton Abbey indie Carnival Films and Lee’s banner POW! Entertainment. Stan Lee and Neil Biswas co-created Lucky Man, based off of an original idea by Stan Lee. The pair will also co-executive produce alongside Gill Champion. Beverley Booker, Anne Mensah, Richard Fell and Gareth Neame will executive produce the drama, which has now entered production for a 2016 premiere. NBCUniversal International Television Distribution is handling global sales.
“Luck has always been a fascinating subject to me, and I am excited to finally share that fascination with audiences around the world”, said Stan Lee. “With all the creative projects I have worked on, I sure am a lucky man myself and I am excited to be working with Sky 1 and Carnival Films on this latest project”.
Stan Lee, who is arguably best known as the creator of Spider Man and a range of other iconic Marvel heroes, is the latest big “get” for Sky, as they have been ramping up their original drama output with a wealth of high profile commissions. It comes only months after Sky1 also cast The West Wing star Rob Lowe as the lead in their drama Apocalypse Slough and Sky Living greenlit The Five, the first original drama series from Harlan Coben.
“Lucky Man is a visually striking crime thriller from the legend that is Stan Lee for Sky 1″, added Sky1 Director Adam MacDonald, who commissioned the series alongside Head of Drama Anne Mensah and Commissioning Editor, Cameron Roach. “The show is mysterious, thrilling, energetic and sure to appeal to our customers. I’m honoured that Sky 1 is working with Stan Lee on his first UK TV drama and I can’t wait for our customers to experience the gifts and misfortunes that luck can bring”.
