Lifetime UK has renewed Dance Mums With Jennifer Ellison – their local adaptation of US format Dance Moms – for a second season, set to air later this year.
The UK series hails from ITV Studios’ Shiver, who have been commissioned to produce a further eight episodes. The new season will be set in Ellison’s own performing arts school, Jelli Studios, and will feature new cast members as well as some familiar faces from season one. The executive producers are Miles Jarvis, Di Carter and Jaimi West.
The second season renewal comes after Dance Mums proved to be the unscripted hit that Lifetime UK has been searching for since they launched in November 2013; with the show quickly cementing itself as the channel’s highest rated first-run unscripted series. Prior to that, Lifetime UK had seen far greater success with first run scripted, rather than unscripted.
On the back of that ratings success A+E Networks has licensed the UK version to the US Lifetime network, making it the first ever commission from Lifetime UK to be picked up by the network. The eight episode first season of Dance Mums is expected to air on Lifetime in the US later this year.
“The first series of Dance Mums with Jennifer Ellison was a huge hit with our Lifetime audience and also brought a lot of new viewers to the channel”, said Heather Jones, General Manager of A+E Networks UK. “I am thrilled to announce that we are bringing back our dancing divas for a second series. The show’s success is highlighted by the fact that it will now air on Lifetime in the US where we hope it will be just as popular as the original show.”
“The first series of Dance Mums with Jennifer Ellison was a great success in the UK – not only because it achieved fantastic ratings but further proved by Lifetime in the US choosing it as their first ever UK acquisition” added Miles Jarvis. “We are very proud of the show and are delighted that it will reach an even bigger audience in the US. We can’t wait to revisit Jennifer for a very entertaining second series.”
