After months of rumours, ITV has confirmed that they have agreed a deal with Endemol Shine International to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Fox’s Broadchurch remake Gracepoint. The 10 episode series is set to air on ITV Encore next month.

Gracepoint follows the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy found dead on an idyllic California beach surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face, from where he may have fallen. Although the cause of his death remains unsolved, the picturesque seaside town where the tragedy occurred is at the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy.

The series is based on the British series Broadchurch and is being produced by Shine America in association with Kudos and Imaginary Friends. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Josh Hamilton, Michael Peña and Sarah-Jane Potts.

“We’re extremely pleased to give our viewers the chance to enjoy Gracepoint, an adaptation with such rich associations, but which stands on its own as a compelling, distinctive piece of drama”, said Sasha Breslau, ITV’s Head of Acquired Series.

For its part, Gracepoint marks the first exclusive scripted acquisition for ITV Encore, which launched exclusively on the Sky platform last year. It comes at a time is making a push into exclusive content, with the recent commissions of original series The Frankenstein Chronicles and Midwinter of The Spirit.
