Collin Callender’s Playground is continuing to beef up the ranks of their television division’s UK arm.
Following on from the recent hires of Louise Pederson as UK Managing Director and Sophie Gardiner as Creative Director, Playground Television UK has appointed former Film4 executive Tom Leggett as their Director of Development.
Tom Leggett, who most recently served as Film4’s Senior Development Editor, will be based in Playground Television’s London office and will work alongside both Louise Pederson and Sophie Gardiner. He will be responsible for building the company’s slate of dramas and will work closely with top creative talent and UK broadcasters.
Prior to joining Film4, Leggett held key roles at Element Pictures and Harvey Weinstein’s The Weinstein Company. During his time at Film4 he worked on such projects as The Riot Club, High-Rise, Cuban Fury, Black Sea, Room, Macbeth, Mr. Turner and 12 Years a Slave.
Playground is coming off of a high note following the recent success of Wolf Hall, which is a co-production with both the BBC and PBS. This latest appointment comes at a time when the company is looking to work with the best in creative talent from film and television to produce more home-grown UK dramas as well as continuing with their currently slate of global co-productions.
“I am thrilled to be joining Playground. It is a company defined by impeccable taste, international ambition and a firm commitment to working with the most exciting storytellers out there”, said Tom Leggett. “Colin’s taste and track record as a producer is second to none. Sophie and Louise are extraordinarily talented, dynamic executives- I am honoured to join the team.”
“The boundaries between film and television are becoming more and more blurred and Tom’s deep ties to the film community will be a dynamic addition to our creative team”, added Louise Pederson. “His appointment further signals our intention to develop and produce innovative and high quality world-class drama projects working with a wealth of talent.”
