Ray Donovan executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker has been set as the executive producer and showrunner on Luke Cage, Netflix’s third original Marvel series to come out of a bumper deal between the streaming service, Marvel and Disney.
Luke Cage will star The Good Wife alum Mike Colter as the eponymous superhero. He will first appear as Luke Cage in a recurring role on Netflix’s second Marvel series A.K.A. Jessica Jones, before seguing Marvel’s Luke Cage as the series lead.
In addition to serving as executive producer and showrunner on Luke Cage, Cheo Hodari Coker will also pen the opening two episodes of the series, which is being produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. Prior to serving as an executive producer on Ray Donovan, Cheo Hodari Coker was a series producer on the fourth season of Southland.
As previously reported, under Netflix’s deal with Marvel, the comic book company’s TV division is producing four original series (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage and Marvel’s Iron Fist) and a mini-series (The Defenders) tying all four series together.
Marvel’s Luke Cage is set to enter production later this year and will premiere globally on Netflix in 2016.
