USA Network is officially back in the sci-fi genre.
The NBCU owned cable network has picked up their sci-fi pilot Colony, starring Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies, to series with a 10 episode order, TVWise has learned.
Colony tells the story of a family torn by opposing forces and making difficult choices as they balance staying together with surviving the struggle of the human race. Set in the near future, the story takes place in Los Angeles, which exists in a state of occupation by a force of outside intruders. Some collaborate with the authorities and benefit from the new order, while others rebel and suffer the consequences.
The hour-long drama hails from Universal Television and Legendary Television. The cast in being led by Josh Holloway, who plays Will Bowman a former FBI agent who is forced to work with the occupying forces to keep his family safe; and Sarah Wayne Callies, who plays Katie Bowman, Will’s wife. The executive producers are Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condol, who also created the series.
With the pick up, Colony is USA Network first science fiction series since The 4400 wrapped its four season run on the network in 2007. Since that point, the network has been focussing on so-called “blue-sky” dramas including Burn Notice and White Collar.
