UKTV is extending the reach of UKTV Play.
The commercial network, which is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks Interactive, is taking their on-demand service UKTV Play to Android devices with the launch of a new app, TVWise has learned.
First announced last June, UKTV Play aims to be a one-stop shop for UKTV’s on-demand offerings, by consolidating the existing feeds for their FTA channels (Dave, Really, Yesterday) into one online brand. The service is already available on iOS, PC, YouView and Virgin Media.
With the launch of the new app, which is available free of charge as of today, Android users will be able to access a wide range of UKTV shows including Suits, Storage Hunters UK, Crackanory, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, Forbidden History, Inquisition, The Sixties, Crime Stories, Most Haunted and Ghost Adventures.
“We created UKTV Play so that viewers can watch UKTV’s great shows anytime, anywhere”, said Dan Fahy, UKTV’s Director of Commercial and Business Development. “When we launched UKTV Play on iOS last year, Apple chose to feature it as one of their ‘Best New Apps’, which is testament to its popularity, design and functionality. I feel confident the millions of people with Android devices are going to really love it too.”
