After a recent spate of cancellations, TBS is picking up one of their comedy pilots to series.
The Turner owned cable network has handed out a 10 episode series order to an as-yet untitled comedy from The Daily Show writers Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, TVWise has learned.
Inspired by Jones and Bee’s personal experience, the series follows a couple and their two young kids as they take a road trip to Key West and proves that no matter how much close proximity can lead a family to get on each other’s nerves, precarious situations and interactions with strangers can bring them together again.
The project, which initially landed a pilot order at TBS back in October 2014, stars Jason Jones as unfiltered dad Nate, Natalie Zea (The Following) as his wife Robin, Ashley Gerasimovich as their rebellious daughter Delilah, and Liam Carroll (The Neighbors) as their simpleton Son Jared. Each season is set to follow a different family road trip.
“This show delivers on exactly the direction we are taking our TBS comedies – honest, smart and provocative,” said Brett Weitz, TBS’ Executive Vice-President of Original Programming. “We couldn’t be happier to be in business with Sam and Jason on what we hope will be the first of many more projects together. We can’t wait to see where they take this mildly dysfunctional family.”
In addition to creating and writing, Jason Jones and Samantha Bee are set to executive produce the comedy, which is being produced in-house by TBS Originals. Production on the series is set to commence this Summer, with TBS eyeing a late 2015 premiere.
