Channel 4’s new period drama Indian Summers will premiere on Sunday February 15th at 9pm, it has been announced.
Created by Paul Rutman, Indian Summers tells the rich and explosive story of the decline of the British Empire and the birth of modern India. Following an assassination attempt at the Royal Club in Simla stories of promises, secrets, politics, power, sex and love play out as the British Raj begins to falter and a nation opens its eyes to the possibilities of freedom.
The cast of the 10 episode series is led by Julie Walters and also includes Craig Parkinson, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Jemima West, Nikesh Patel, Roshan Seth, Lillete Dubey, Alexander Cobb, Fiona Glascott, Amber Rose Revah, Aysha Kala, Olivia Grant and Edward Hogg.
The period drama, which is a co-production with U.S. public broadcaster PBS, received a green-light at Channel 4 in August 2013 as part of a recent move at the PSB to increase their investment in original drama. Indian Summers is produced by New Pictures, with Charlie Pattinson, Simon Curtis, Elaine Pyke and Rebecca Eaton serving as the executive producers. Anand Tucker helmed the opening block of episodes.
