So much for the spy game…
USA Network has cancelled their Piper Perabo fronted CIA drama Covert Affairs after airing five seasons of the series, TVWise has learned.
Created by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, Covert Affairs follows Annie Walker, a recent CIA recruit who is assigned to work in the agency’s Domestic Protection Division under Joan Campbell, the wife of the Director of the National Clandestine Service. Annie is assisted in her duties by her colleague and love interest Auggie Anderson, a blind CIA analyst. Produced by Universal Cable Productions, the drama series stars Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorman, Karrie Matchett, Anne Dudek and Peter Gallagher.
The series, which launched on USA Network in 2011, wrapped its fifth season on USA Network on December 18th 2014. Covert Affairs was initially a hit for USA, but continued to shed viewers across its run, with the most recent season pulling in an average live+same day audience of around 1 million viewers, down significantly from the 4+ million who tuned in at the height of the show’s popularity.
Despite the demise of Covert Affairs, USA Network still has a healthy roster of dramas for its 2015 schedule. The network recently picked up the hacker drama Mr. Robot starring Rami Malek and Christian Slater to series and ordered new seasons of Suits, Graceland, Satisfaction and Royal Pains. They also have the Jason Isaacs fronted event series DIG on tap for March.
