UKTV’s Dave channel is extending the run of ratings hit Storage Hunters UK.
The channel, which still ranks as the UK’s number one non-PSB, has ordered a further two seasons of the series, which is an adaptation of the US format, TVWise has learned. The pick up is for a total of 20 episodes, which will be evenly split across the show’s second and third seasons.
Storage Hunters UK is fronted by Sean Kelly and features participants who blind bid on disused storage lockers around the country, hoping to make their fortune from what’s hidden inside. The show is produced by North One Television, with Catherine Catton, Jenny Daly and John Quinn serving as executive producers.
The series was ordered in May 2014, after UKTV licensed the format rights from T Group Productions, and subsequently launched on Dave in October to a strong 1.14 million viewers and a 5.2% audience share – making it one of the channel’s highest ever rated shows. Storage Hunters UK’s premiere episode subsequently consolidated to 2.5 million viewers, and was one of the key shows that drove UKTV’s ratings growth in 2014.
“North One, Sean Kelly and T-Group have worked hard with us to make Storage Hunters UK a stand-out success”, said UKTV’s Senior Commissioning Editor Catherine Catton. “I’m very much looking forward to working with the team on the next two series, we have the most exciting format along with some of the biggest characters who will do anything to win!”
“There was an element of risk in bringing a format that was so well-loved by the Dave audience to our shores”, added Steve North, General Manager of Dave. “But injecting Dave’s personality into a format that blends jeopardy, tension and laugh-out-loud moments has resonated with our audience and I’m very pleased we are able to bring them more of what they love.”
