TruTV UK is on the hunt for co-productions.
The Turner owned channel, which launched in the UK last year, is seeking co-production partners to develop “high volume character-led content” for the UK market, TVWise has learned.
The move towards co-productions and original commissions is the latest strategic decision the channel has made as part of a concerted effort to drive growth and bolster their line up of exclusive content beyond the pipeline from the US network, which gives TruTV UK such series as Container Wars, South Beach Tow, Tattoo Nightmares, The Carbonaro Effect and Total Blackout.
“We have seen solid growth in the first six months with access to some of the top factual and reality shows in the US, and now we want to accelerate that further with shows tailored specifically for UK audiences”, said Ian McDonough, who joined Turner last year as Managing Director for Turner Broadcasting, UK and Northern Europe. “We are prepared and ready to invest for the right character-led, high-volume factual and reality entertainment shows.”
McDonough has also brought on two new executives to TruTV UK’s ranks to drive further growth of the channel. former UKTV exec Jane Mote has been appointed as interim channel director of general entertainment; while BBC Worldwide’s Sabina McNally will serve as acquisitions manager. Both will attend the Realscreen Summit, hunting out ideas for the channel.
“truTV’s UK audiences enjoy unashamedly sitting back and watching loveable, larger-than-life characters doing amazing or outrageous things”, said Mote. “They’re not after any great take-out rather a view into other people’s worlds that are surprising, unusual or entertaining. We are looking for great ideas from any part of the world that will excite their curiosity.”
