TLC UK has given the greenlight to Tina Malone: My New Body, a one-off documentary following actress Tina Malone as she goes under the knife for a number of cosmetic procedures.
Tina Malone: My New Body will take viewers on the medical and emotional journey of Tina and her family, as she undergoes numerous operations to remove 12lbs of excess skin that was left when she lost more than 10 stone after having a gastric band fitted in 2010 to allow her to undergo IVF treatment.
Word of the documentary first leaked out last November when Tina Malone, whose long list of credits include Brookside and Shameless, appeared on ITV’s This Morning and revealed her skin problems and that a camera crew would be following her as she went under the knife in 2015.
At the time it was unclear which broadcaster was behind the docu, but TLC UK said they envision the one-off as a follow up to ratings hit Tina Malone: Pregnant at 50, which aired last year to some half a million viewers. Tina Malone: My New Body was commissioned by Clare Laycock, Head of TLC UK & Ireland, and Sarah Thornton, VP of Production and Development, Factual Entertainment.
“Tina is a fascinating character who is remarkable for her honesty, as well as for her drive and determination to overcome barriers and achieve her ambitions”, said Clare Laycock. “It is a pleasure to welcome her back to TLC after the Pregnant at 50 documentary that was a hit with our viewers. This time she is granting us unprecedented access to the extreme personal medical journey that she hopes will bring happiness from outside and within.”
