Sky1 has found the lead actor for Apocalypse Slough.
The West Wing and Parks & Recreation star Rob Lowe is set to lead the cast of the 10 episode drama series, TVWise has learned
Created by Iain Hollands, Apocalypse Slough is a comedy drama about the last days of mankind. The series follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways. All triggered by the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course towards earth. Some of them are destined to make it to a bunker deep beneath the suburbs of Slough, and as a result will become the future of mankind.
Rob Lowe will play Father Jude, the Vatican’s most rebellious priest. Rounding out the cast is Jenna Fischer (The Office) as mild-mannered librarian Rhonda; Megan Mullally (Will and Grace) as unhinged white supremacist Leanne; Mathew Baynton (Yonderland) as Slough bank manager Jamie; Pauline Quirke (Birds of a Feather) as Jamie’s mum Paula; Patterson Joseph (Peep Show) as 5 star US Army General Gaines; and Joel Fry (Game of Thrones) as Jamie’s best friend Dave.
The 10 episode series, which received a green-light at Sky1 earlier this month, is being produced by Working Title Television and Bigballs Films. The executive producers are Juliette Howell, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Lynn Horsford for Working Title TV, Andrew Conrad for Bigballs Films, and Cameron Roach and Lizzie Gray for Sky. 30 Rock‘s Michael Engler is attached as lead director.
In addition to assembling an impressive cast, it has been announced that NBC – the network behind such series as Hannibal and Chicago Fire – has boarded the project as a co-producer and will air the series in the US. This further extends the relationship between NBC and Sky, the two of whom previously worked together on co-production Dracula. NBCUniversal International Television Distribution will handle global sales.
