CBS is turning to a familiar face to lead the cast of their new Criminal Minds spin-off.
The network has tapped Gary Sinise, who starred as lead character Detective Mac Taylor on all nine seasons on CSI: NY, to star in the potential spin-off, which is being piloted as a planted episode of Criminal Minds, TVWise has learned.
The as-yet untitled spin-off is set in a different division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which comes to the aid of American citizens who find themselves in trouble in foreign countries. CBS ok’d production of the back-door pilot in December.
Gary Sinise will play Jack Garrett, a 20-year veteran of the Bureau who is currently in charge of the FBI’s top team for handling cases involving Americans abroad. Casting for the remaining roles is underway, with production slated to commence in February
The spin-off is being penned by Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer and, should it go to series, would be produced by ABC Studios, CBS Television Studios and the Mark Gordon Company. Erica Messer, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper are executive producing.
