CatastropheSharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s Catastrophe is crossing the Atlantic.

Amazon Prime Instant Video has snapped up the exclusive U.S. rights to the six episode Channel 4 comedy series, which was recently renewed for a second season, after reaching a deal with Avalon Television, TVWise has learned.

Created by and starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, Catastrophe is set in London about an Irish woman and American man struggling to start a relationship after their clumsy lust leads to pregnancy. The comedy series is produced by Avalon Television, with Richard Allen-Turner, Kara Baker, Rob Delaney, Sharon Horgan and Jon Thoday serving as executive producers.

“Rob and Sharon have created an engaging, contemporary, funny and moving story,” said Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios. “We are excited to bring Catastrophe exclusively to our Amazon Prime customers and can’t wait to hear what they think of the series.”

In addition to taking exclusive rights in the United States, Amazon Prime Instant Video UK has also picked up streaming rights to the series. Catastrophe will debut on Amazon in the US this spring, and will follow on the UK service later in the year.

Can’t wait for the American remake of this…

Why does it need an American remake?, the show looks workshopped enough to be understood by most people, including the satire.
