Amazon Strikes eOne Deal For UK Rights To ‘Turn’, ‘Halt & Catch Fire’ & More

TurnAmazon is adding four high profile US cable series to their UK streaming service.

Amazon Prime Instant Video UK has secured the exclusive first run rights to AMC dramas Turn: Washington’s Spies and Halt & Catch Fire, as well as SundanceTV’s The Red Road and DirecTV’s Rogue after striking a wide-ranging output deal with international distributor eOne (Entertainment One), TVWise has learned.

The deal between the two companies, which also gives Amazon Prime Instant Video UK the streaming rights to miniseries Klondike, has been in the works for months, with word first leaking out in November that Amazon and eOne were in talks. The output arrangement, which gives Amazon exclusive rights to all AMC and SundanceTV series produced by AMC Studios has been described as a “major deal”, which is designed to up the competition between Amazon and its main competitor Netflix.

Penned by Craig Silverstein, Turn: Washington’s Spies is set in the summer of 1778 and tells the story of New York farmer, Abe Woodhull, who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America’s fight for independence. The drama series was recently renewed for a second season stars Jamie Bell, Kevin McNally, Burn Gorman, Daniel Henshall, Seth Numrich, Angus MacFadyen, JJ Feild, Meegan Warner and Heather Lind.

Halt And Catch FireHalt & Catch Fire is set in the early 1980s and tells the story of the personal computing boom through the eyes of a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy whose innovations directly confront the corporate behemoths of the time. Their personal and professional partnerships are challenged by greed and ego while charting the changing culture in Texas’ Silicon Prairie. The cast includes Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Rio Davis, Kerry Bishe, Toby Huss and David Wilson Barnes.

The Red Road revolves around two clashing communities – a small town and the neighboring mountains, home to a Native American tribe – and two dynamic men on a collision course. The series, which has been picked up for a second run, stars Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Julianne Nicholson and Tamara Tunie.

Created by Matthew Parkhill, Rogue follows Grace, a morally and emotionally conflicted cop who is tormented by the possibility that her own actions contributed to her son’s death. Grace’s search for the truth is further complicated by her forbidden relationship with the crime boss who may have played a hand in the crime. The drama series stars Thandie Newton and Marton Csokas.

The first two seasons of Rogue and the debut seasons of Turn: Washington’s Spies, The Red Road and Halt & Catch Fire are now available to stream on Amazon Prime Instant Video UK. Klondike, which previously aired in the UK on Discovery Channel, is also available to stream for Prime members.
