After picking up four drama pilots, ABC has turned their attention to comedy.
All told, the network has ordered a further seven comedy pilots, ranging from The Neighbors and Galavant creator Dan Fogelman’s untitled NBA project and The King Of 7B, to an untitled comedy from Johnny Knoxville, and Delores & Jermaine, from stand up comedian Jermaine Fowler.
The untitled NBA comedy, which hails from ABC Studios, is a fish-out-of-water story which follows a rookie who doesn’t speak English and a translator who doesn’t understand basketball. The single-camera comedy is being penned by Casey Johnson and David Windsor. The executive producers are Dan Fogelman, Aaron Kaplan, Mike Tollin and Peter Gruber.
The King Of 7B follows Prentiss Porter, an agoraphobic recluse who ventures outside for the first time in 20 years, after his soulmate moves in across the street. The comedy is set up at ABC Studios and is being written by Howard Franklin, who executive producers alongside Dan Fogelman.
Penned by Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer, The 46 Percenters tells the stories of three couples who are amongst the 46% of Americans who choose to stay married, rather than separate and divorce. Warner Bros. Television is producing, with Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer executive producing.
From Judah Miller and 20th Century Fox Television comes an as-yet untitled single-camera comedy which tells the story of Tony-winning mother and a risk averse, cerebral father who are thrust into the world of of youth sports after their son turns out to be a natural born competitive athlete. Miller penned the script and will executive produce.
The Untitled Johnny Knoxville Comedy is based on the Jackass star’s own life and follows the exploits of 12-year-old Johnny in his small hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. The comedy, which examines the various experiences that led to him becoming a famous prankster, will be narrated by Knoxville and is being written by Victor Fresco. ABC Studios is producing, with Knoxville, Fresco, Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky serving as executive producers.
The Brainy Bunch tells the story of Kip and Mona Lisa Mitchell, who find themselves raising extraordinarily intelligent children. When Kip returns home from the military to be a stay-at-home dad, he experiences the challenges of parenting highly intelligent kids with limited social skills. The single-camera comedy, from 20th Century Fox Television, is based on the book of the same name and is being written by Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux.
Finally, Delores & Jermaine tells the story of a millennial who moves in with his strict estranged grandmother, a football-loving former cop who needs Jermaine’s youthful enthusiasm just as much as he needs her parenting. The ABC Studios produced comedy, which is based on Jermaine Fowler’s life, is being penned by Danny Chun and Fowler – who is also attached to star. The executive producer are Chun, Fowler, Avi Gilbert and Michael Rotenberg.
