Syfy’s Arthur C. Clarke adaptation Childhood’s End has added to actors to its cast.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer alum Julian McMahon and Shutter’s Daisy Betts have both signed on for co-starring roles in the six hour mini-series, TVWise has learned.
Adapted for television by Life On Mars creator Matthew Graham, Childhood’s End follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious “Overlords,” whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture.
Julian McMahon has been cast as Rupert Boyce, an enigmatic American entrepreneur; while Daisy Betts will play Ellie, an arts graduate engaged to marry Ricky Stormgren, the most influential human in the world.
The duo are the latest actors to board the Universal Cable Productions mini, which starts filming in Australia next year. The cast also includes Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Mike Vogel (Bates Motel), Ashley Zukerman (Manhattan), Osy Ikhile (Clap!) and Yael Stone (Orange is the New Black).
Childhood’s End is one of three long-form projects to get a green-light at Syfy since the network recommitted to scripted drama last year. The first such project, six hour mini Ascension, is airing in three-parts on the network this week; while the other is another adaptation of an Arthur C. Clarke novel – 3001: The Final Odyssey.
