AMC’s The Walking Dead will return to FOX UK to finish airing its fifth season on Monday February 9th at 9pm – less than 24 hours behind the show’s broadcast on AMC in the United States.
Based on the graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead follows a group of people, led by deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes, who are attempting to survive after an outbreak has led to the rise of the undead. The drama series stars Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, David Morrissey and Danai Gurira.
AMC has not yet revealed any plot details for the back half of the show’s fifth season, though it is expected to pick up from the shocking mid-season finale, which saw main character Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) killed off in a confrontation with Dawn Lerner.
The announcement that the series will continue to air on FOX UK within 24 hours of the US broadcast comes after Fox International Channel’s previously announced that the strategy had paid off, with first eight episode of The Walking Dead’s fifth averaging a consolidated audience of 1.3 million viewers.
“The continued ratings success of The Walking Dead shows the huge appeal for this high-quality and thrilling drama”, said Cecilia Beacon, Director of Broadcasting and Marketing for Fox International Channels UK. “With a dedicated and passionate fan base, our programming strategy of airing just 24 hours after the U.S. has proven to be a huge hit with viewers.”
