Comedy Central Picks Up UK Version Of ‘Drunk History’ To Series

Drunk HistoryComedy Central UK is committing to Drunk History.

The VIMN backed broadcaster has handed out an eight episode series order to a UK take on the hit comedy format, TVWise has learned.

Drunk History features comedians getting very drunk in order to tell a true historical story they are passionate about. As they narrate these stories, slurred word for slurred word, a host of well-known actors, celebrities and other comedians act out these new, rather blurry versions of history.

The original format was devised by Derek Waters & Jeremy Konner and across its two season run on the US Comedy Central network has featured such stars as Jack Black, Danny McBride, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and Zooey Deschanel. Stars lined up for the UK version include Johnny Vegas, Ralf Little, Russell Kane, Joe Lycett, Russell Tovey, Rob Beckett, Alex Horne and James Acaster; while Jimmy Carr will provide the voice over.

“I’m excited that we have green-lit series production for Drunk History”, said Lourdes Diaz, Vice-President & Head of Global Production and Development for Comedy Central International. “I know our UK audience is going love it, after all, it combines two things the nation holds dear to its heart…drinking and history!”

Drunk History UK, which was picked up to series after Comedy Central ordered a pilot back in September, hails from Endemol owned indie Tiger Aspect Productions and will be executive produced by Andy Brereton, Jill Offman, Lourdes Diaz and Joe McVey. The show’s eight episode first season is expected to air in 2015.
